Cladding Alloys

The powder alloys we use in laser cladding: Inconel 625, Rockit 401, 410L, 316L, 420 and S2528 — and which one is right under which conditions.

Selection

The right alloy comes from the right question

What determines the result in laser cladding is not the machine but selecting the alloy that suits the part. Abrasive wear, corrosion, temperature, metal-to-metal friction — as the answer changes, so does the correct powder.

AlloyTypePrimary reason to selectTypical industry
Inconel 625Nickel-based superalloy (Ni-Cr-Mo)Extreme corrosion and acid resistanceOil & gas, marine, chemical
Rockit 401Iron-based, water atomised (Höganäs)Hard chrome alternative / wear resistanceHeavy industry, hydraulics, mining
410LLow-carbon martensitic stainless (~12.5% Cr)Economical build-up, easy machiningGeneral machinery, automotive
316LAustenitic stainless steel (Cr-Ni-Mo, low carbon)Corrosion resistance and hygieneFood, pharmaceutical, chemical, marine
420Martensitic stainless steel (high carbon)High hardness and friction resistanceDie & mould, pump shafts, cutting tools
S2528Cobalt-based superalloy (Co-Cr-Mo)Erosion and cavitation resistance at high temperatureEnergy, gas turbines, valves
